Most of your questions can be answered by reading all the information on this page. If you email me regarding questions that have already been provided on this page I will redirect you back to this page so please take a few minutes to carefully read the all information provided here. I will be happy to answer any questions you might still have after you read this page. While I enjoy corresponding with fellow bird lovers I simply don't have the time to repeatedly answer questions that I have already provided answers for here. Sorry, I know that this is a lot of information to wade through but these are answers to the questions that are repeatedly asked the most often and information you will need know in order to do business with me. Please take the time to scroll slowly down and read anything that could possibly apply to your order. Some people are having a hard time finding my email address. It's on the bottom of this page.
Thank you!
About me...
I'm a student, not an expert when it comes to waterfowl. This website wasn't created to just showcase my waterfowl but to share information with other novice fanciers and promote the breeds I care for. In 2005 when I first got Sebastopol Geese & Muscovy Ducks, I soon discovered that there were no breed clubs, very few quality photographs or helpful breed information, so this is my effort to share the information that I've gathered along the way. Please feel free to email me any helpful information or corrections.
As for my personal experience I've been raising & breeding livestock for over 30 years. I've raised horses, donkeys, dairy goats, rabbits chickens, dogs, cats, tropical fish and cage birds. I have also owner handled/exhibited horses, dogs & dairy goats. I no longer show although I do breed for show quality. "Quality not quantity" has also been my philosophy when breeding any bird or animal. I am not a hatchery. I don't have a large amount of birds. My birds live in very clean conditions, free range year round, are given proper feed for their individual needs and lots of fresh water daily for drinking and bathing. I breed for hardiness, utility, quality type and temperament. I have limited sales and accept limited requests to be on my waiting list. My utmost concern is placing my babies in good homes. Shipping available year round weather permitting.
My Guarantee - Read before you order!
Unfortunately I can't make any guarantees once a bird leaves my hands due to circumstances beyond my control, such as tragedies in shipping or owner's improper care after arrival. I do not accept any returns or issue any refunds. I don't replace birds that develop problems or disease due to poor care and/or environmental factors, however, if any bird that you purchase from me develops a genetic defect within 3 months of purchase date please contact me for a free replacment bird. The buyer pays for all box, handling fee's and shipping expenses of any replacement bird. Replacement birds are shipped "as available" and may not be available until the following year. Wing disorders such as angel wing and twisted wing tip will not be replaced since improper feed and care can cause Angel Wing to surface and twisted wing tip is a very common disorder in Sebastopols. See information on wing disorders on the bottom of this page.
 December 2009

"Deluxe Pet Quality" defined: This is my personal interpretation... My pet quality breeders do not have any major faults to the untrained eye and most have very good to excellent feathering. They are average type but not quite the total body & head type/look needed for showing. See the photo of Soufflé on my white Sebastopol page. This is an example of what I call deluxe pet quality.
"Show Potential" defined: The parents have more of the show type look in head, neck, body and plumage and could possibly produce show quality offspring. To be realistic, in any given breeding unless a pair has proven to consistantly throw a certain desirable type, the odds of getting show quality are not that high. On the other hand, depending on the shows you attend even deluxe pet quality could place at smaller shows and would do well in 4-H. There is no way to determine if babies are show quality until they grow up...even if the parents are show champions. Beware the the pre-sale hype of breeders stating that their goslings or ducklings are "show quality."

Shipping, My Email Address, FAQ & Wing Disorder Info:
IMPORTANT Shipping Update. Good News: In July 2009 a new local air shipping program was implemented and surcharges will no longer be required. This will make shipping adults much more affordable. Plus lives will be shipped out of my local international airport making for less delays than we are currently experiencing on commercial flights. Bad News: Sorry, at this time we can no longer ship lives to the following zipcodes. These are the first 3 digits of the zip codes we currently do not have air service to: 004, 046, 047 148, 149 307, 356 - 358, 373, 374 544, 545, 590 - 593, 596 - 599 620, 622, 624, 628 - 631, 633 634, 636 - 639, 648, 650 - 658 712 - 716, 725 - 729 812
Shipping Precautions - Please read before you order! It is very important to let your post office know in advance that you are expecting a shipment of lives. I do not replace or send refunds for DOA birds or birds that die after arrival. Any claims that you file for late delivery or dead birds is your responsibility. It is advised that you open the box in the presence of postal workers when you pick up or take delivery of your birds and if you have any dead birds file a claim at that time. If you cannot get any help from your local postal workers ask them for the phone number of the local Consumer Affairs and ask them for help. Since the USPS does not guarantee that lives will arrive overnight, even when shipped Express Mail, be forewarned that shipping is at your own risk.
Shipping Information:
Shipping available year round, weather permitting. The USPS will ship lives when temperatures are above 10 F and below 85 F degrees. I don't ship adults if its over 80º I only ship Express Mail. You pay actual shipping price, weight of box and birds to your destination. There are no hidden fees. There is a $10. per box handing fee when shipping ducks.
Payment for birds, box and shipping: to be paid in advance and in full by the buyer via PayPal or Money Order before birds are shipped. PayPal is a safe and easy way to transfer funds online and it is free to sign up. www.paypal.com
Heat Packs: Keeping your day olds warm will great increase their survival in transit. These made for shipping heat packs last 72 hours which I can now be add to your day olds shipping box. Highly recommended. Add $2.00 to your total and state in your order you would like one included in the shipping box.
Shipping Boxes: The day old goslings/ducklings box fee is $5. (I provide box). For larger/older birds, buyers will have to send me a bio-secure shipping box which can be ordered through a supplier such as Horizon You can order the box online or over the phone Toll Free 1- (800) 443-2498 and they will drop ship the box to me. Some of my customers have purchased shipping boxes from www.jedds.com or other poultry & game bird suppliers. It typically takes 3 - 7 days for me to receive the box. You pay for box and the postage to ship the box to me . The boxes are reusable. Or you can mail me a used regulation type shipping box if you already have one. The United States Postal Service in my state no longer accepts ordinary cardboard boxes or dog crates for shipping birds. All adult shipping boxes must be bio-secure USPS approved.
Tracking Number: Whenever I ship lives I email the buyer the date of shipment and the Express Mail tracking number. Every year numerous buyers will email me asking for their tracking number when I have already sent it. Please read and save the emails I send you regarding your shipment. If you shipment is late call your post office and track online at: http://www.usps.com/
Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: What do you have for sale? A: Read this page. All sale birds are listed here.
Q: When are day olds goslings available? A: Generally April - June.
Q: Do you have young adults or breeding stock for sale? A: Yes, I sometimes have young adults and breeding stock for sale. I update my sales page whenever I have something for sale so check back frequently.
Q: Can you ship to my area? A: Air service is now restricted for some locations. (see details above) Check your zipcode above under shipping information update.
Q: How much does shipping cost? These prices may not be current, check with your local PO for rate increases. A: Express Mail is based on weight of box and destination. A box of 3-4 day old goslings weighs around 1.5 - 2.5 lbs. Average cost: is $27.25 (for under 2 lbs.) a few dollars more if over 2 lbs. Average cost for shipping large young geese or adult geese is around $70. ( for one) - $120. (for two) Your pre-ship estimated Express Mail price may vary from the actual cost of shipping based on the true weight of the birds/box per the post offices more sensitive scales the day of shipping but my estimates are usually accurate or a little under so you typically don't over pay. If you over pay more than $5. I will issue you a refund. Any over payment under $5. will not be refunded. Q: What do I feed my ducklings or goslings when I get them? How do I care for them? Can they go swimming? A: Click HERE to read my new page "Tips on Raising Waterfowl" In addition there are numerous websites on raising waterfowl.

Waterfowl Wing Disorders
Twisted Wing Tip: Sebastopols that develop twisted wing tip (TWT) will not be replaced, since this is a very common disorder within this breed most likely due to their unique feather mutation. I've been told by a long time Sebastopol breeders that a high percentage of Sebastopols will develop twisted wing tip by the time they are 3 years old. Because the bony tip and/or end segment of the wing twists and does now lie flat in a normal position it causes feathers to stick out awkwardly but not on a severe right angle degree like Angel Wing. TWT isn't always that noticeable to the un-trained eye or may cause some obvious stick out feathers on the wings. It can range from almost unnoticable to very obvious. Some people theorize that breeding smooth x curly varieties reduces the occurrence TWT but as far as I know there is no documented evidence to back up that theory. I strongly suspect it cannot be totally eliminated even through selective breeding since it may very well be a undesirable side effect created by their unusual curly feather mutation that cannot be eliminated without eliminating their curly feathering. I'm trying smooth x curly matings in my colored Sebastopols to see what happens but realistically speaking it would take years of selective breeding and keeping all the offspring to figure out how well it works so use your own judgement when dealing with wing disorders in Sebastopols. I personally suspect its the "nature of the beast" and even culling for wing disorders won't make any difference but I'm just guessing. I could be wrong. Dec. 09 - See updated information on twisted wing tip on my colored Sebastopol page.
Angel Wing: Occurrences of angel wing in waterfowl can be reduced by avoiding over feeding/free choice feeding, too fast growth, a diet overly high in protein and providing day long access to green grass, bugs and exercise. I had a customer experience 100% angel wing in his Muscovy ducklings because he thought he was doing them a favor by feeding them the highest protein feed he could find. The following year he reduced the protein level in the feed and had zero Angel Wing. This doesn't mean you should feed low protein, rather it is advised that you do not over feed and use starter and grower rations specifically developed for waterfowl to avoid problems. There is a lot of information online regarding the feed requirements of poultry and waterfowl so do your homework if you aren't sure what or how much to feed. I recommend Dave Holderread's book "Storey's Guide to Raising Ducks" or "Book of Geese" for complete information on how to properly feed, breed and raise waterfowl. Click Here for two articles on Angel Wing.
PLEASE read all of the above information before sending me an email. Thank you!
